Event, July 16: Sarmad Khoosat Live – Sapan Virtual Fundraiser

Watch and interact with Sarmad Khoosat, acclaimed Pakistani actor, film and television director, producer and screenwriter, on July 16, Sunday, at Sapan’s first online fundraiser!

One of Southasia’s finest filmmakers, Sarmad Khoosat is best known for the multiple award-winning and thought-provoking films Zindagi Tamasha (2019), Manto (2015), Kamli (2022), and Joyland (2022). He also directed the super-hit TV dramas Humsafar and Shehr-e-Zaat.

He is our guest in a LIVE discussion with journalists from across Southasia for a special fundraiser for Sapan, the Southasia Peace Action Network.

Born into a family of artists, Sarmad is the recipient of several awards for his work, ranging from Humsafar, a family drama that became popular across Southasia, to the film Manto based on life and works of the legendary writer Saadat Hasan Manto. His portrayal of the troubled genius is considered one of the finest performances that Pakistani cinema has witnessed.

A key part of Sarmad’s success is that he can make complex themes appealing and relevant to mass audiences. He also teaches film-related subjects across prestigious institutes, and has represented Southasia at various international, national, art and literary festivals.

Sarmad is committed to the cause of peace and unity in Southasia. He has dedicated his time through this special event to raise funds for Sapan as it works to push for more dialogue, solidarity and ease of visas between Southasian nations.

He will be in discussion with Malinda Seneviratne, former editor-in-chief of The Nation newspaper and award-winning poet in Colombo; Mandira Nayar, journalist and peace activist in Delhi; and Lubna Jerar, journalist and gender-equality activist in Karachi.

The event will be hosted by actor, poet and theatre patron Dr Arvinder Chamak in Amritsar.
