Sapan Series: Imagine! Neighbors in Peace – XXIV

The Southasia Peace Action Network is thrilled to announce the latest event in the series, Imagine! Neighbors in Peace. Join us on Sunday 28 April for a discussion on Exploring Southasian Identity and Diversity – of the youth, for the youth, and by the youth.

Sunday, 28 April: 10 am ET; 3:00 pm U.K; 7:00 pm Pakistan; 7:30 pm India; 7:45 pm Nepal; 8:00 pm Bangladesh.

The event aims to to explore Southasian identity from the perspective of the youth. The main speakers are young individuals who will discuss various dimensions that make up Southasian identity, such as cultural, social, and historical influences.

We will explore the commonality and diversity that exist within Southasian communities, celebrating diversity while promoting unity and understanding.

Our impressive line up of guest speakers includes talented young people from India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, and Nepal. 

Confirmed speakers include (in reverse alphabetical order): 

  • Uthpala Wijesuriya, historian, Sri Lanka
  • Sachin Timilsina, cricket commentator and National Coordinator at Youth Congress of Nepal
  • Mansi Chandna, peacebuilder, India/ Manchester, U.K.
  • Lucky Akter – singer and activist, Bangladesh
  • Amina Ali, activist, Aurat March, Pakistan
  • Adnan Bajwa, Cross-Border Initiatives, Bazm-e-Aalam, Pakistan

The discussion moderator is Faisal Lalani, founder of Thuley, a global social change organisation spanning multiple disciplines, including tech policy, public health, education reform, and clinical psychology. 

The event host is researcher Vishal Sharma, a founding member of Sapan.

The event is free and open to the public. We particularly invite members of Southasian communities to join, including students, activists, and scholars, plus any anyone interested in promoting peace, diversity, and cultural understanding. We hope to create a platform for meaningful dialogue and exchange of ideas by engaging a diverse audience.

April also marks the spring and harvest season, marked with multiple festivals around the region. Join us as we celebrate a new year, new beginnings and new relationships built on the foundations of trust, friendship, and community. 

As always, we aim to uphold the principles of peace, dialogue and mutual respect amongst the culturally rich and diverse people of South Asia.
