Southasia stands as a testament to the beauty of diversity, with its myriad cultures, languages, and traditions weaving a rich tapestry of identity. However, alongside this richness, the region has also witnessed strife and discord, often stemming from misunderstandings and differences. The International Day of Living Together in Peace commemorated annually on 16 May prompts us to ponder how we can leverage unity amidst diversity to nurture peaceful coexistence.

In an era of increasing globalisation and connectivity, fostering mutual understanding and harmony is paramount. By embracing and celebrating the diversity inherent in Southasia and fostering a culture of respect and empathy, we pave the way for a more inclusive and harmonious future.

We invite you to join us on 26 May as we envision a Southasia where diversity is celebrated, and unity prevails, supporting a society rooted in harmony.

Event objectives: The Sapan webinar series ‘Imagine Neighbours in Peace’ endeavours to delve into the complexities of Southasia’s diversity and seek avenues to promote mutual respect and harmony among its communities. The upcoming webinar on Unity in Diversity seeks to:

  • Celebrate the diversity of Southasia by acknowledging and honoring its myriad cultures, languages, religions, and traditions.
  • Understand the impediments to peaceful coexistence, examining historical, social, and political factors.
  • Explore strategies for fostering unity through initiatives, policies, and grassroots efforts that facilitate dialogue, tolerance, and understanding.

At Sapan, we aim to forge our own narrative rather than reacting to that of others.
